3.1 명사 수식

명사 수식
the first + ⓝ + to-ⓥ
the last + ⓝ + to-ⓥ
the only + ⓝ + to-ⓥ

3.1.1 수식받는 명사가 to R의 의미상 주어가 되는 경우

수식받는 명사가 to R의 의미상 주어가 되는 경우
→ 주격 관계대명사절로 바꿀 수 있다.

I have no friend to help me.
= I have no friend who help me.
(내게는) 나를 도와 줄 친구가 없다.

3.1.2 수식받는 명사가 to 부정사에 대한 의마상의 목적어가 되는 경우

수식받는 명사가 to 부정사에 대한 의마상의 목적어가 되는 경우
→ 목적격 관계대명사로 바꿀 수 있다.

3.1.2.a 명사 + to-ⓥ(타v)

I have no friend to help.
= I have no friend whom I help.
(내게는) 내가 도와 줄 친구가 없다.

3.1.2.b 명사 + to-ⓥ(자v) + 전치사

I have no hous. + I can live in it.
1. I have no house which I can live in.
2. I have no house in which I can live.
3. I have no house which to live in.
4. I have no house in which to live.
5. I have no house to live in.
뜻 : 나는 살 집이 없다.

I need a chair. + I can sit on it.
1. I need a chair which I can sit on.
2. I need a chair on which I can sit.
3. I need a chair which to sit on.
4. I need a chair on which to sit.
5. I need a chair to sit on.
뜻 : 나는 앉을 수 있는 의자가 필요하다.

3.1.2.[+] to-ⓥ 관용표현

3.1.2.c 명사 + to-ⓥ(타v) + ⓝ + 전치사

I lack words. + I will express my thanks with them.
1. I lack words which I will express my thanks with.
2. I lack words with which I will express my thanks.
3. I lack words which to express my thanks with.
4. I lack words with which to express my thanks.
5. I lack words to express my thanks with.
뜻 : 나는 그들에게 내 감사를 표현할 단어가 부족하다.

He has no money to buy a car with.
그는 차를 살 돈이 없다.

He wants a knife to cut the bread with right now.
그는 지금 당장 빵을 자를 수 있는 칼을 원한다.

3.1.3 수식받는 명사와 to 부정사가 동격 관계인 경우

관계대명사절로의 전환은 없다.

3.2 보어 자리 (be + to 부정사)

3.2.1 be + to-ⓥ (명사) vs to-ⓥ (형용사)

He is to sell cars. (X)
His job is to sell cars. (O) (His job = to sell cars)
그의 직업은 차를 파는 것이다.

<예정, 의무, 운명, 가능, 의도>

They are to meet in Seoul.
(예정) 그들은 서울에서 만날 예정이다

The medicine is to be taken three times a day.
(의무) 그 약은 하루마다 3번 복용해야 한다.

He is never to see her again.
(운명) 그는 다시는 그녀를 보지 못할 운명이다.

Nothing was to be seen here.
(가능) 여기에서는 아무것도 볼 수 없다.

All air must be excluded if the experiment is to work.
(의도) 만약 실험이 작동하려면 모든 공기를 배제해야만 한다.

3.2.2 자동사 + to-ⓥ
